August 20th, 2025. I have this idea that I used to apply all the time called a heartfelt meditation. Take any question in your mind, heart, or consciousness and hold it to your heart with your eyes closed and breathe calmly. When you're ready, open your eyes, and whatever your attention first goes to is the answer to your question. I started doing that many years ago, then I got away from it. You have to have the ability to see things in multiple dimensions with multiple meanings to really enjoy it; it's not a two-dimensional, flat surface answer. There's a richness to engage you with the natural world, which is where you want to do this. In the natural world, there's an infinite choice of texture, color, shadow, and shape because all of those hold keys to us as human beings.
I'm working with a question that is coming from my Ho'oponopono prayer, and it's a daily question I can ask for the rest of my life. It simply is, "What do I need to focus on today, or what do I need to be aware of today in this moment that serves my highest good?" That's a powerful one. If I can serve my highest good in my thoughts, words, actions, and activities, then I will bring this life to a high level of fruition. So I did ask this question, closed my eyes, held that near my heart, and what came up for me when I opened my eyes was this soft breeze on my skin. And then I noticed that this breeze was touching everything around me. What did that tell me? It told me, "Can I move through life in that way, touching life around me just as if I'm a breeze?" And how gentle that is. And to try to practice that with that level of consciousness. So that became my orientation for the day.
One of my challenges after the stroke became my eyes. Just focusing on things and being able to move steadily. I can't just look around; I have to focus on the subject and move towards it in order to be balanced. That's a pretty interesting thing. It puts me in the moment and undistracted. That could be what it is - being able to hold a steady gaze without distraction. This breeze idea also came up in my eyes. Can my eyes view the world as if they are a breeze moving gently over everything? Kindly, gently rolling over everything? There's an interaction between the tree, the olive tree, the oak tree, the other trees, the magnolia, and the lavender plant. There's an interaction with the sage plant between the movement there and my own eyes. And how does that feel? How does that change my experience of the day and of this life? That's something that you don't ever answer in a split second, usually. I have to ponder it and be with it for a while. However, I'm very grateful for this idea of a breeze. Usually, you open your eyes and you see one thing, and it has an exceptional quality to it that you recognize right away. But this idea of the breeze is the answer to my question, "What serves my highest good today? What do I need to know? Or what is going to be best for my focus?" Wow! Pretty cool!
When I close my eyes, how should my body be? What should the position of my hands be? Of course, when I started this, the natural place was in a prayer position for your hands. Recently, the idea that when we do that with our hands, gently putting them together, we are building up an environment, almost a charge between our hands that can open our timeline for healing. Sayer Gee has recently discussed this work and has been shown in HeartMath to change specific vibrations and measurements that we can verify. However, it isn't necessary to measure it all. If you trust it, then you trust it, and you allow it to work through your life and your session in a ripple as if you just dropped a stone in that position of your hands, and now that ripples out into your experience in this time for this activity. And that is a reality that we can see, which should be sufficient for us to trust. So that's one of the key things. Sit quietly, holding your question, and put your hands in the prayer position.
Once you begin to feel a warmth building up between your palms or an exceptional sensation of calmness come over you, rest in that while you hold your question dear and open to the answer for you in this moment.
Gratefully, I'm back in the garden, and it's quiet at this moment. One thing that can happen is if the space where we'll be meditating is noisy with machinery and other distractions, you will find it challenging to remain undistracted. Still, it is like an exercise that strengthens our ability to stay undistracted and focused. However, now I have a quiet moment, and I have asked, held my hands in a prayer position, allowed the energy to build up, calmly observed, and I open my eyes to a flower called yarrow. Yarrow is an old, old flower; usually they're yellow, but sometimes they're white or pink. It looks like just one flower at the end of a stem, but when you look closely at it, you'll see it's a collection of tiny repetitive blooms. My interpretation of that as an answer to what I need today is that the coherence of repeated activities, even small ones, is what makes it most beautiful. And it will, because it builds and it gives you a specific result that you're looking for or that you find attractive. That is my message to myself today. What do I need to focus on for my highest good? It's to remember and practice small things repeatedly to create coherence in my life. The kind of coherence that appears beautiful and makes a difference
